Welcome to the
Queer Book of Hours
Begin your time of prayer
by selecting an option from the Daily Prayer or
Special Prayers menu options above.
This QUEER BOOK OF HOURS is divided into sections by days
of the week, with prayers for Morning, Midday and Evening.
There are also sections for "Taking God to Work", "Remembering
& Grieving", and "Queer Saints".
Further sections, to be published at a later date, will
offer prayers of Healing, prayer celebrating diverse
gender identities, and more.
MCC San Francisco is a house of prayer for all people,
a home for queer spirituality.
We are grounded in the
Christian tradition, exploring and affirming many paths
to God.
Whoever you are,
wherever you have come from, you are welcome here.
From and For
Our Communities
Books of Hours were the most popular books of the Middle
Ages and were used by people in their personal devotions
at a time when church authorities kept most people as mere
spectators in community rituals.
‘I’m excited about this being a place where
queer people can turn at any time of day to find prayers
that speak from our experience of Spirit, address our fears,
our longing, and our hopes,’ says Rev. Dr. G. Penny
Nixon, Senior Pastor at MCC San Francisco.
‘Our queer bodies are sacred and all of our lives
are sacred,' she says.
'We hope this will offer people
a way to access their own spirituality whenever —and
wherever—they
choose.'
