The music program at MCCSF is a vibrant example of life-transforming courage. The members of all ensembles come together regularly to meet and exceed their own expectations of musical possibilities. Many of our members are not professional musicians, and yet they capture the art of excellence and joy through music.
There's a place for everyone in the music ministry at MCC San Francisco! To join the Many Names Choir or Taize musicians, please contact Ryan Connolly at rconnolly@mccsf.org. To join the Worship and Praise Team, please contant Stephanie Smith at ssmith@mccsf.org.
The morning choir is a classical four-part ensemble of vocalists with piano accompaniment, except when they sing a cappellawhich they do with ease! Many of the members sing solos or duets to enhance the worship experience for all. The repertoire spans the ages with works from the Renaissance, the Baroque period, all the way to modern classical works. They can venture into folk idioms and bring sensitivity to prayer hymns. This ensemble is comprised of human beings who come together and make divine melodies rise from the page.
Rehearsal Schedule: The Morning Choir meets for rehearsal in the sanctuary on Sundays 9:00am - 10:45am before 11:00am Sunday weekly worship.
Music is at the heart of Taizé worship. The service offers meditative music in the style of the Taizé community as well as from other traditions, in an intimate and reflective worship experience.
Rehearsal Schedule: Meets for rehearsals in the Sanctuary: Wednesdays 6:00pm - 6:45pm for the 7:00pm Wednesday weekly worship.
MCCSF's Worship & Praise Team is a gospel ensemble made of four-part vocals, acoustic piano, electric organ, electric bass, electric guitar, drum kit, hand percussion and trumpet. Our evening service begins with a set of praise songs, but not in the syrupy, soft praise style. This group hits the room with enthusiasm that is contagious. Eventually everyone is swaying, clapping, and singing along.
The incredible talent in the praise band is the bedrock upon which the choir lets out their heart and soul to reach up into the last seat in the balcony. The ensemble presents anthems in the old spiritual style, the modern gospel groove, and a mixture of classical, folk, and world music. The Worship and Praise Team often performs for community events, rallies and interfaith services.
Rehearsal Schedule: Worship & Praise Team meets for rehearsal in the Sanctuary: Sunday afternoons 5:00pm - 6:30pm. 2nd Saturday monthly 10:00am - 1:00pm for 7:00 p.m. Sunday weekly worship. All are welcome!
