Welcome to MCC San Francisco

Cathedral House

Low-cost housing for select MCC seminarians
cathedralhouse
Thank you for your interest in Cathedral House! We understand that the cost of housing, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area, can make the possibility of attending seminary extremely difficult. We are very grateful to MCC congregant Paul Steindal, whose generosity and vision have made it possible for MCCSF to offer low-cost housing for a select number of MCC seminarians on an as-available basis. If you are interested in applying for housing at Cathedral House, please follow these steps:

  • Read the information below that provides details about the facility.
  • Fill out the rental application posted here
  • Answer the questions about your calling to seminary and ministry here
  • Please send questions to admin@mccsf.org for more information. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you again, and we wish you many blessings on your seminary journey! Paul Steindal and MCCSF

Details about Cathedral House

Our desire is to provide students with a safe, supportive, and affordable environment while attending seminary. We value the MCC principles of inclusivity and community and seek to promote these principles through life at Cathedral House.

Potential candidates for residence at Cathedral House will be able to articulate a clear calling to seminary and to ministry within Metropolitan Community Churches. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated an expressed interest specifically in pastoral and parish ministry within the context of Metropolitan Community Churches.

Cathedral House is located in Emeryville, California within walking distance of MacArthur BART and other forms of public transportation. It is a private home with multiple staircases. The house has enough room to house three students (one couple may be considered). The three rooms available are of varied dimensions and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Two rooms are large with considerable closet space, and the third room is significantly smaller. Residents will share a large bath with double vanity. A coin-operated washer and dryer are provided. Common areas include kitchen, pantry, dining area, laundry and living room. There is a tandem garage for bicycle storage, with street parking only for cars.

A house manager lives on the premises to ensure safety, cleanliness, and an environment conducive to study and communal living. House-keeping duties will be shared and assigned. Regular house meetings will be held to maintain continuity and community structure.

Rent will be $200, $250, or $300 per month based on the size of the room that is rented. All utilities are provided, including wireless internet. Residents may be asked to provide a small monthly fee to maintain household/kitchen staples and cleaning supplies.

Residence at Cathedral House is permitted as long as a resident is enrolled in seminary; upon leaving seminary or graduation, each resident will be expected to vacate so that we can continue to make room for as many students as possible. East resident will sign a contract with an understanding of the terms of the rental agreement before moving in.

To apply for residence at Cathedral House, please fill out the application here and the statement of calling to ministry here and send it to admin@mccsf.org. Thank you!
